Incredible Educational Apps for Both Parents and Teachers

By Ryan Crawley,

Technology is constantly evolving.

Just in the app space alone, by the time you finish reading this sentence, there will have been another couple of dozens of apps emerging out on the market.

There are more than 500,000 educational apps currently out there that were created to assist both parents and teachers for the betterment of their children.

The problem is that nobody that works with kids has enough time on their hands to go through all of them to narrow down the best from the rest.

As an educator and parent myself, here are a few helpful educational apps I have come across during my time in education during the last 12 years that can be used both in and out of the classroom.

Reading Eggs One of the best indicators of academic achievement in young children is the ability to read at an early age.

If your child can read by the time they are heading into kindergarten, this should translate well for their grades down the road.

While in a perfect world, parents would be able to spend plenty of time helping their children learn how to read.

The same can be said for educators in the classroom.

But sometimes moments can get away from you and the time you meant to spend with your child going over literacy skills is instead used for other pressing matters.

Luckily, the app Reading Eggs focuses on phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension through online storybooks and fun activities.

This is not a replacement for one on one tutoring, but when in a bind, Reading Eggs will assist children with learning how to read by using technology.

10-Minute Teacher Podcast If you search for a few minutes, you will be able to come across a podcast for just about everything under the sun.

Whether you have interests in woodwork, the supernatural, or education, you will be able to find numerous completely free podcasts on that topic.

One enjoyable education podcast that can be downloaded to your phone is the 10-Minute Teacher Podcast.

They cover five different lessons a week and each episode is only ten minutes long.

This means that you can listen to it on your drive into work or just during your lunch period.

Each episode focuses on various issues in education that can help out both parents and educators.

Talkspace Do you ever feel extremely overwhelmed by everything happening in your life at the moment? After all, life was complicated even before kids came along.

When you throw children into the mix on top of everything else, days and nights can be tough to navigate through.

Talkspace is an app that will allow you to contact therapists that can help you get a hold of your mental health once again.

It can be accomplished through text, audio, and video chat.

Talkspace does require a subscription, but if it can get you through the day, it is well worth it.

The Happy Child Whether a parent or an educator, it is essential to educate your children on social and emotional learning.

The Happy Child app will allow you to learn about the certain chemicals in the body that may be affecting your child’s current attitude.

Plus, the Happy Child will show how to communicate properly with kids in an effort to establish a better bond.

After all, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

If you can establish a routine with your child while they are still young, you may be able to avoid many of the headaches when they become older.

Math Training for Kids There are four basic math concepts when children begin to learn mathematics.

There is subtraction, addition, multiplication, and division.

If a child is strong with all of these, they will usually go on and have no problems with algebra and other areas of math as they get older.

Math Training for Kids includes activities and problems for children three years of age and up to solve.

Of course, once again, this app should not take the place of working with an adult one on one, but if you are tight on time and know that a child needs some extra help, Math Training for Kids could be of assistance.

Wunderlist Attention spans seem to be getting shorter and shorter not just with children, but adults as well.

The problem is that if kids can’t remember something one minute to the next, they will not be succeeding in academics.

Wunderlist is ideal for tracking homework assignments and other projects or chores that need to be finished in a certain amount of time.

It gives the user the ability to create these lists and make them suitable for various circumstances.
