Are you a passionate classicist with expertise in Latin language and literature? We are seeking a dedicated and inspiring individual to join our prestigious independent school in Kingston Upon Thames as a Latin Teacher. As part of our dynamic and supportive faculty, you will have the opportunity to impart your knowledge and enthusiasm for the ancient world to students eager to explore the foundations of Western civilization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging and interactive Latin lessons to students across various year groups, fostering a deep appreciation for the language and its cultural significance.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources to cater to different learning styles and abilities, ensuring all students are supported in their language acquisition journey.
  • Cover a range of topics, including grammar, syntax, vocabulary, and literary analysis, to provide a comprehensive understanding of Latin language and literature.
  • Organize and oversee extracurricular activities, such as Latin clubs or classical literature societies, to further enrich students' understanding and passion for the subject.
  • Monitor and assess student progress through regular assessments, coursework assignments, and examinations, providing constructive feedback to support their academic development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the Classics department and across other subject areas to promote interdisciplinary learning opportunities and enhance the overall curriculum.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a degree or equivalent qualification in Classics, Latin, or a related field.
  • Proven experience teaching Latin at the secondary level, preferably within an independent school setting.
  • A deep knowledge and passion for Latin language, literature, and classical civilization, with the ability to inspire and engage students of all abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to plan and deliver effective lessons that meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Commitment to the school's ethos and values, with a willingness to contribute to the wider life of the school community.
