Are you a recent English graduate with a passion for literature, language, and education? We are seeking dedicated English Graduate Teaching Assistants to join an Ofsted good secondary school in Stockport on a full-time basis. This rewarding role is available to start in September and will continue until the end of the academic year, with the potential for the position to become permanent based on performance and school requirements.

Role Overview:

As an English Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the teaching and learning of English within the school, working closely with experienced teachers to inspire and empower students to achieve their full potential in the subject. Your key responsibilities will include:

  1. Classroom Support: Assisting English teachers in delivering engaging and interactive lessons, providing one-to-one support to students who may require additional help, and facilitating group discussions and activities to enhance understanding and appreciation of English literature and language.

  2. Literacy Support: Working with students to develop their literacy skills, including reading, writing, and comprehension, through targeted intervention sessions, guided reading activities, and personalised feedback to support their progress and attainment in English.

  3. Resource Preparation: Collaborating with the English department to prepare and organise resources and materials for lessons, including worksheets, reading materials, and visual aids, to support teaching objectives and enhance the overall learning experience for students.

  4. Assessment and Feedback: Supporting teachers in assessing student progress, marking assignments and assessments, and providing constructive feedback to students to help them improve their writing skills, develop critical thinking abilities, and achieve success in English.

  5. Behaviour Management: Implementing positive behaviour management strategies within the classroom, promoting a supportive and inclusive learning environment, and building positive relationships with students to encourage their engagement and participation in English lessons.

  6. Collaborative Working: Working collaboratively with colleagues in the English department to share ideas, resources, and best practices, and contribute to the development of innovative teaching approaches and strategies to enhance the teaching and learning of English across the school.

Requirements:

  • A degree in English or a related subject with a strong academic background and a genuine passion for English literature and language education.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students of all abilities, build positive relationships, and provide effective support and guidance in English learning.
  • Adaptability, resilience, and a proactive attitude, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, take initiative, and respond positively to challenges and changing priorities in a dynamic school environment.
  • An enthusiasm for working with young people and making a positive impact on their academic and personal development, with a commitment to promoting high standards of achievement and fostering a love of learning in English.
