Are you passionate about supporting young people who need help to overcome barriers to learning, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing?

Do you want to begin or develop a career in youth work, youth counselling, or mental health support?

This is a highly rewarding opportunity for someone who wants more than just a classroom job - someone who wants to make a genuine, lasting impact on young lives every single day.

As a Youth Worker - Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with children and young people with SEN and SEMH needs, supporting them both academically and emotionally.

You will help pupils to build confidence, regulate behaviour, and develop the skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.

  • Support pupils with SEN and SEMH needs in small groups (4-6 students)
  • Provide consistent 1:1 support within a highly structured setting
  • Build trusted, positive relationships with vulnerable young people
  • Help pupils regulate emotions and improve engagement in learning
  • Support both in-class learning and wider social development
  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral teams in a therapeutic, restorative environment

This is a small, supportive specialist provision in Chelmsford, Essex, supporting boys and girls aged 5-16 with a range of additional needs.

The school takes a restorative and therapeutic approach to behaviour and education, focusing on understanding the needs behind behaviour rather than simply managing it.

  • Recently graded 'Good' across key areas including leadership, behaviour, and management
  • Strong pastoral and therapeutic ethos
  • High staff-to-student ratios ensuring meaningful support
  • Excellent training culture with a focus on development and progression

We are seeking individuals who are genuinely motivated to support vulnerable young people and build a long-term career in education, youth work, or mental health support.

  • Experience with SEN, SEMH, youth work, support work, or care settings (desirable)
  • A calm, consistent, and emotionally resilient approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A genuine interest in child development, behaviour, or mental health
  • Aspiration to work in youth work, counselling, psychology, or education
  • Competitive daily pay: £92 - £100
  • Full training, CPD, and ongoing professional development
  • Hands-on experience with SEMH and SEN pupils
  • Clear pathway into permanent roles and career progression
  • A highly supportive environment where staff are valued and developed
  • Experience that is invaluable for future careers in youth work or counselling

This is an excellent opportunity for aspiring youth workers, support workers, or mental health professionals looking to build real, practical experience in a specialist school setting.
