Salary/Pay Rate: Paid to scale (MPS/UPS depending on experience)

Contract Type: Full-time, temporary

Start Date: Immediate or as soon as possible

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, term time only


A primary school in the DE21 area is looking to appoint a Year 2 Class Teacher to join their team. The role involves taking responsibility for a Year 2 class, delivering engaging lessons aligned to the KS1 curriculum, and supporting pupils through a key stage in their learning journey.

Year 2 is an important year for building foundations in reading, writing and maths, as well as preparing pupils for the transition into Key Stage 2. You will be expected to maintain clear routines, support independence, and ensure pupils are making steady progress across all areas of learning.


  • Plan and deliver lessons for a Year 2 class in line with the KS1 curriculum
  • Assess, track and support pupil progress
  • Deliver phonics and early reading sessions where required
  • Create a structured, safe and inclusive classroom environment
  • Adapt teaching to meet a range of learning needs
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and support staff
  • Manage behaviour in line with school policies
  • Communicate with parents and carers when appropriate

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience teaching within Key Stage 1, ideally Year 2
  • Good understanding of the KS1 curriculum and phonics
  • Confident classroom management skills
  • Ability to plan and adapt lessons for mixed ability groups
  • A calm, consistent and professional approach
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
