Supply Desk is delighted to be working in partnership with a warm and welcoming primary school in the Henley-on-Thames (RG) area to appoint a passionate and dedicated Year 1 Class Teacher. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a nurturing school environment and play a key role in supporting pupils as they transition from EYFS into Key Stage 1.

This role would suit an enthusiastic and creative teacher with a strong understanding of early learning and phonics, who is committed to building strong foundations for future academic success.

As a Year 1 Teacher, you will support pupils through a crucial stage of development, helping them adapt to a more structured curriculum while continuing to foster curiosity, independence, and a love of learning.

  • Plan and deliver engaging, creative, and differentiated Year 1 lessons in line with the KS1 national curriculum
  • Support pupils’ development in phonics, early reading, writing, and numeracy
  • Build on EYFS learning to support a smooth transition into Key Stage 1
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment
  • Monitor and assess pupil progress, using data to inform teaching and interventions
  • Support children with a range of abilities, including those with SEN
  • Promote pupils’ confidence, independence, and social development
  • Build strong partnerships with parents, carers, and colleagues
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and the wider school team
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – desirable
  • Experience teaching in EYFS or Key Stage 1, ideally Year 1
  • Strong understanding of phonics schemes (e.g. Little Wandle or similar)
  • Excellent classroom management and organisational skills
  • Nurturing, engaging, and adaptable teaching style
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work full-time in the Henley (RG) area from September
  • Experience specifically teaching Year 1
  • Strong knowledge of phonics screening preparation
  • Experience supporting pupils transitioning from EYFS
  • Confidence using assessment frameworks to track progress
  • Experience supporting children with SEN
