Supply Desk is delighted to be working in partnership with a warm and welcoming primary school in the Henley-on-Thames (RG) area to appoint a passionate and dedicated Year 1 Class Teacher. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a nurturing school environment and play a key role in supporting pupils as they transition from EYFS into Key Stage 1.
This role would suit an enthusiastic and creative teacher with a strong understanding of early learning and phonics, who is committed to building strong foundations for future academic success.
As a Year 1 Teacher, you will support pupils through a crucial stage of development, helping them adapt to a more structured curriculum while continuing to foster curiosity, independence, and a love of learning.
- Plan and deliver engaging, creative, and differentiated Year 1 lessons in line with the KS1 national curriculum
- Support pupils’ development in phonics, early reading, writing, and numeracy
- Build on EYFS learning to support a smooth transition into Key Stage 1
- Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment
- Monitor and assess pupil progress, using data to inform teaching and interventions
- Support children with a range of abilities, including those with SEN
- Promote pupils’ confidence, independence, and social development
- Build strong partnerships with parents, carers, and colleagues
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and the wider school team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – desirable
- Experience teaching in EYFS or Key Stage 1, ideally Year 1
- Strong understanding of phonics schemes (e.g. Little Wandle or similar)
- Excellent classroom management and organisational skills
- Nurturing, engaging, and adaptable teaching style
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work full-time in the Henley (RG) area from September
- Experience specifically teaching Year 1
- Strong knowledge of phonics screening preparation
- Experience supporting pupils transitioning from EYFS
- Confidence using assessment frameworks to track progress
- Experience supporting children with SEN
