About the Role

Are you a graduate passionate about supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)? Are you ready to take the next step into teaching?

We are looking for a motivated and caring Unqualified SEND Teacher to join our specialist provision in Bedford. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with an undergraduate degree who is eager to develop their teaching career while working with pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and moderate to profound learning needs.

You will work closely with experienced teachers and support staff, gradually taking on responsibility for planning and delivering lessons, with full support and training provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the planning and delivery of tailored lessons for pupils with complex needs
  • Lead small group and whole-class sessions under guidance
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs and EHCP targets
  • Use communication strategies such as visual timetables, PECS, and Makaton
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Promote a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants, and therapists
  • Contribute to assessment and progress tracking

The Ideal Candidate

  • An undergraduate degree (essential)
  • A genuine interest in pursuing a career in teaching, particularly within SEND
  • Experience working with children or young people (desirable)
  • Understanding of autism and complex learning needs (or willingness to learn)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusion
  • Access to vehicle/ able to travel
