This role is ideal for educators who are passionate about helping pupils overcome learning challenges, improve academic performance and develop confidence.

You will support students with a variety of educational needs, including those who require extra help with core subjects, are preparing for examinations, have experienced gaps in their education or need specialist support due to SEND.

Tuition sessions may take place in family homes, schools or alternative learning environments. We welcome applications from experienced tutors, qualified teachers and professionals with relevant SEND experience.

Your Role as a Tutor

You will provide focused, one-to-one learning sessions designed around each pupil's abilities, interests and educational targets. By adapting your approach to suit individual learners, you will help them stay engaged, strengthen their understanding and make consistent progress.

Assignments may involve Primary and Secondary education, GCSE preparation, Functional Skills, home tuition, alternative provision and specialist SEND support.

Subjects You Could Teach

We are particularly interested in tutors with knowledge or experience in the following areas:

  • English, Mathematics and Science
  • Primary literacy, numeracy and the National Curriculum
  • GCSE subjects and Functional Skills
  • History, Geography and other Humanities

  • Computing, Creative Arts and additional curriculum subjects

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons that meet each learner's individual targets.
  • Prepare appropriate teaching materials and adapt resources to different abilities.
  • Review pupil progress and provide clear written feedback following sessions.
  • Encourage participation, independence and positive learning habits.
  • Build constructive relationships with pupils, parents, carers, schools and relevant professionals.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, lesson and progress records.
  • Follow safeguarding guidance and professional standards at all times.

Essential Requirements

  • A minimum of two years of teaching or tutoring experience within the UK.
  • Experience supporting learners at primary, secondary, GCSE, Functional Skills or SEND level.
  • Effective communication, lesson planning and assessment skills.
  • The ability to adapt teaching approaches and manage challenging behaviour appropriately.
  • Reliable transport and the flexibility to travel throughout Towcester and nearby locations.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.

QTS, PGCE or another recognised teaching qualification is advantageous but not essential.

Experience That Would Be an Advantage

Applications are particularly welcome from tutors who have supported pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, dyslexia, speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), EHCPs or other additional learning needs. Previous experience in home education, alternative provision or individual tuition would also be beneficial.
