Trainee Autism Teaching Assistant

We are excited to offer an opportunity for individuals interested in pursuing a career in special education to join our team as Trainee Autism Teaching Assistant. This role is ideal for those with a passion for working with children and young people with Autism and other Special Educational Needs, offering valuable hands-on experience and training under the guidance of experienced professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support and assistance to students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in classroom and educational settings, under the supervision of qualified teachers and SENCO.
  • Assist in the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and behavior management strategies, following guidance and instructions from teaching staff.
  • Support students in accessing the curriculum, including adapting learning materials and providing additional explanations or assistance as needed.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, encouraging engagement, participation, and independence in learning activities.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to monitor student progress and contribute to the review and evaluation of support strategies.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students.

Requirements:

  • Genuine interest in working with children and young people with autism and other special educational needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience when working with individuals who may display challenging behaviors or require additional support.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills, with a commitment to ongoing professional development and training.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, following instructions and contributing ideas effectively.
  • Willingness to undergo relevant safeguarding checks, including an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
