Theraputic Teacher for Vulnerable Children in Arundel

Location: Arundel, West Sussex

Our theraputic partner School for Vulnerable Children works with children aged 5-16 and is a unique educational setting located in a large rural area, providing an opportunity for children to learn and explore in a natural environment. The school is specifically designed to support children who have experienced negative experiences in mainstream schools and may have a fear of traditional educational settings. The children have traumatic pasts and need consistent, caring educators to help them learn to trust others and re-build their confidence. The school strives to provide a less intimidating learning experience by focusing on smaller groups, individualised transition plans, and opportunities for one-on-one support. This school supports children not only through their fantastic team but also their inclusive and exciting facilities including, Forest School, a sensory garden, therapy suite, adventure playground and a personal chef!

Role Description:
As a Theraputic Teacher you will be working with children with additional needs including, challenging behaviour and traumatic pasts. These  children require a consistent, kind and nurturing educator who can provide patient and unconditional support. As a teacher you will work closely with your teacher collegues to plan lessons and ideas to engage the children in an interactive, creative and fun way. Each student has a personalised plan and EHCP, and their learning journey is based on where they currently are working at. You will assist in the implementation of individual transition plans and therapeutic interventions, supporting children in managing their emotions and building their confidence. Although it is desirable, a QTS is not essential but more so a passion and understanding of vulnerable children with experience in teaching children or young adults.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience working with vulnerable children or young people.
  • A commitment to the school and children.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • An understanding of child development and the impact of trauma.
  • A caring and empathetic nature.
  • The ability to work as part of a team and use your own initiative.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
