That's one of the realities of working in specialist education.

Sometimes the most useful thing you can bring into a classroom isn't a particular qualification or teaching technique.

It's being the calm person in the room.

I'm currently looking for Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants and Behaviour Mentors to work within SEND and SEMH schools across East Sussex.

I support specialist settings around Hastings, Battle, Eastbourne, Hailsham, Seaford, Newhaven, Lewes and the surrounding areas, and I'm continuing to grow the network of educators I work with throughout this academic year.

My schools need people who can build relationships with young people while maintaining clear professional boundaries.

People who can:

  • Stay calm when situations become challenging
  • Communicate clearly with pupils and colleagues
  • Adapt rather than becoming frustrated when something doesn't work
  • Be consistent from one day to the next
  • Work well within a wider staff team
  • Understand that behaviour can be communication
  • Keep expectations high while recognising individual needs

If you already have SEND or SEMH experience, brilliant.

If you don't, that doesn't necessarily rule you out.

Depending on the vacancy, relevant experience from mainstream schools, care, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring or tutoring can provide a strong foundation for working within SEND.

I recruit across:

  • SEND & SEMH Teaching
  • Teaching Assistant / LSA work
  • Behaviour & Engagement Support
  • 1:1 roles
  • Intervention and Pastoral Support
  • Flexible supply
  • Long-term and ongoing placements

Across both primary and secondary specialist settings.

SEND was my own background before recruitment, so I understand that saying you "want to work with additional needs" isn't enough to establish which school will suit you.

Different settings require very different approaches.

I'll take the time to understand your experience and what you're comfortable with before discussing the schools I think are worth considering.

And if I don't think something is right for you, I'd rather tell you that than push you towards it.

Teaching Assistant and LSA opportunities start from £92.60 per day, with qualified teaching roles paid to scale where applicable.

You'll need an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service. If yo
