Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in Dorset. This specialist provision supports students who require a more personalised approach to learning. The setting provides a nurturing environment where young people are encouraged to develop academically, socially, and emotionally, helping them overcome barriers to education and reach their full potential.

The students may have a range of additional needs, including social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, anxiety, behavioural challenges, and difficulties engaging in mainstream education.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students, teachers, and other professionals to create a positive learning environment where young people feel safe, supported, and able to achieve success.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Providing 1:1 and small group support.
• Building positive and trusting relationships with students.
• Supporting students to engage with learning and classroom activities.
• Assisting with behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies.
• Encouraging confidence, resilience, and independence.
• Supporting students both inside and outside the classroom.
• Working collaboratively with teachers and pastoral staff to meet individual student needs.

We are keen to hear from individuals who:

• Have experience working with children, young people or adults with mental health challenges
• Are patient, empathetic, and resilient.
• Can remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
• Have strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Are passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning.
• Have an interest in education, mental health, youth work, psychology, social care, or SEN.

Experience within education is beneficial but not essential. We welcome applications from Teaching Assistants, Support Workers, Youth Workers, Psychology Graduates, Sports Coaches, and other professionals with transferable skills.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
