Teaching Personnel are working closely with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Chester-le-Street to recruit a Teaching Assistant to support pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting children’s learning and wellbeing, with responsibilities ranging from general classroom support to 1:1 SEN support within the main classroom.

There are immediate opportunities available during the Summer Term, with longer-term placements and September starts also available.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside class teachers to support pupils’ learning, development and engagement. The role will be varied and may include supporting whole-class learning, small groups, and individual pupils with additional needs.

  • Provide classroom-based support across KS1 and KS2
  • Offer 1:1 support for pupils with SEN within the main classroom environment
  • Support pupils with learning activities, engagement and independence
  • Assist with adapting resources to meet individual learning needs
  • Help create a positive, inclusive and nurturing learning environment
  • Support behaviour management in line with school policies
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and other support staff
  • Previous experience working with children (school-based experience desirable)
  • A caring, patient and proactive approach to supporting pupils
  • An understanding of SEN needs (e.g. ASD, ADHD, speech and language, SEMH) is advantageous
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
