Due to an increase in demand, we are URGENTLY seeking experienced Teaching Assistants to provide 121 support for pupils with SEN, displaying challenging behaviour at a number of schools throughout the York area.

Qualification Required

Ideally you will hold an SEN or Teaching Assistant qualification. Experience with SEN and managing challenging behaviour is essential.

Skills

You will need a proactive and resilient nature as well as a flexible attitude. Candidates with experience in the following sectors are often successful in these types of roles

  • managing challenging behaviour in mainstream schools / SEN schools / alternative provisions / pupil referral units 
  • support assistants from children’s homes 
  • Youth workers 

The Role

The challenging and rewarding role of a behaviour mentor can change daily. It is likely that you will work with 1 child in particular. You will;

  • support the child’s emotional needs as well as providing academic support, delivering lessons planned by the class teacher.
  • assist the class teacher and other staff in carrying out an appropriate planned programme of work to meet the needs of the particular children enabling him/her to reach full potential
  • support the child’s integration into the rest of the class/group
  • encourage and support the learning process of the child both on a one-to-one basic and within a group
  • assist in the monitoring of the child’s performance and to report progress.
  • provide feedback to enhance the child’s self esteem and to encourage acceptable behaviour
  • care for the safety, welfare and hygiene of the child
  • liaise effectively with all staff in the school. 

Hours 

We currently have a range of full and part time roles available. The standard school day will require you to work 8.30 - 3.15, term time only.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
