To be a successful Teaching Assistant, the individual should possess a determined and positive mindset, alongside having the drive to want to succeed and make an impact in pupil’s lives daily. This can be accomplished with a patient and empathetic approach to the classroom environment as well as working in unison with the teacher to plan and help facilitate their curriculum.

A Successful Teaching Assistant should ensure that they:

  • Prioritise and push the learning, development, health and well-being of every pupil.
  • Establish and build upon relationships with the students, staff and parents.
  • Ensure the classroom environment is always that of a nurturing and safe space for the pupils.
  • Creatively implement the curriculum into lesson plans that engage but challenge the class.

Essential Criteria for a Teaching Assistant:

  • Possess a Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or are working toward it.
  • Child Only enhanced DBS on the update service
  • Registered with the EWC
  • Passionate and driven to make a difference.
