The Role:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the educational and emotional development of students with SEMH needs. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Providing individualized support and guidance to students with SEMH needs, both within the classroom and in pastoral settings.
  2. Collaborating with classroom teachers to plan and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that meet the diverse needs of students.
  3. Implementing behavior management strategies and interventions to support positive behavior and de-escalate challenging situations.
  4. Supporting students in developing coping strategies, social skills, and emotional resilience.
  5. Building positive and trusting relationships with students, families, and external agencies to ensure holistic support for students with SEMH needs.
  6. Contributing to the development and implementation of individualized support plans and risk assessments for students.

Requirements:
To excel in this role, you will need:

  • Previous experience working with young people with SEMH needs, preferably in a PRU or similar setting.
  • A compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting students facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
  • Resilience, adaptability, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • A commitment to promoting inclusion, equality, and diversity within the school community.
