The Role:

As a Teaching Assistant specializing in ASC support, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that students with autism spectrum conditions receive the tailored assistance they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Working closely with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) and classroom teachers, your duties will include:

  • Providing one-on-one support to students with ASC, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior management strategies to meet the specific needs of each student.
  • Assisting with academic tasks, including literacy, numeracy, and subject-specific learning activities.
  • Facilitating social skills development and promoting positive peer interactions.
  • Creating and maintaining a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborating with colleagues and parents/carers to monitor student progress and address any concerns promptly.

Requirements:

To excel in this role, you will need:

  • Experience working with students with autism spectrum conditions, preferably in an educational setting.
  • A patient and empathetic approach to supporting individuals with diverse learning needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents/carers.
  • Flexibility, resilience, and the ability to adapt to changing situations.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in special education or autism support (desirable but not essential).
