The Teaching Assistant Job
I am looking for an experienced, dedicated and pro-active Teaching Assistant - PMLD to join a top SEN School in Lambeth as soon as possible. I have one or possibly two positions available to start after Easter based in a modern and very well run Special Needs School working in small classes providing instruction, guidance and encouragement to pupils with PMLD and other complex cognitive difficulties.
Pupils have complex learning and medical needs, most are wheelchair bound and are unable to communicate with the outside world - this means that a background in social care or nursing and some school based TA experience will be a huge advantage. As a Teaching Assistant you will be expected to provide assistance with Hoisting, Manual Handling Needs and Personal Care (feeding, changing and toileting). There will be comprehensive on the job training and lots of guidance both through our client schools (induction training, PECS, Makaton and Team Teach) as well as free CPD from Reeson Education covering Safeguarding, Introduction to SEN, Phonics, Effective Listening, Behaviour Management etc.)
The successful Teaching Assistant applicant will be working with students aged 5-16; all of whom have statements of Special Education Needs. Most of the pupils you will be working with have very limited communication skills, and some are completely non-verbal. You will be working either 1:1 with a particular student or a class alongside a team of fellow LSAs and the class teacher.
The Teaching Assistant personal care duties will include:
To be eligible to apply for this Teaching Assistant position, you will need to be available to start immediately, as well as being able to work 8:30 - 4pm, 5 days per week in Lambeth. You should have a good command of numeracy and literacy, as this is especially important when working with pupils with limited communication skills.
