 Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant

Location: Bournemouth

Are you passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of students with diverse learning needs? Springwood School in Bournemouth is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEN, including but not limited to autism spectrum disorders, dyslexia, ADHD, and emotional and behavioral difficulties.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and SENCO to implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
  • Adapt lesson plans and teaching materials to meet the individual needs of students, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment by promoting positive behavior management strategies and social skills development.
  • Monitor and track student progress, documenting observations and assessments to inform ongoing interventions and adjustments.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates on student progress and collaborate on strategies for support at home and school.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and specialists to coordinate additional support services for students with complex needs.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and training workshops to enhance skills and stay abreast of best practices in SEN support.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience working with students with SEN preferred but not required; training will be provided.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and understanding.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
