Teaching Assistant required for a Foundation Special School that caters for children and young people between the ages of four and nineteen who are experiencing learning difficulties, including complex needs, and those with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

The school is proud of their facilities that include a swimming pool, IT provision, gym, outdoor teaching areas, food technology room, sports/playing field, outside interactive/sensory areas, sensory rooms, 5 minibuses to generalize skills learnt in the classroom into the community, Separate Post 16 facility and dedicated play areas.

Duties

  • To work under the instruction/direction of senior manager/teaching staff to support the delivery of quality learning and teaching of pupils with special educational needs.
  • Work with children and young people who have a range of significant and often complex.
  • Support with personal care
  • To undertake specified work with individuals, groups and whole classes under the direction and supervision of a qualified teacher;
  • To encourage the participation of pupils in the social and academic processes of the school, and enable pupils to become more independent learners.
  • To undertake work/care/support programmes to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom

Person Specification – essential

  • Experience of working with or supporting children/adults with special needs (SEN) or mental health difficulties
  • Understanding and compassion of a young person’s Social, emotional and mental health needs
  • Experienced with personal care or comfortable to learn
  • Comfortable to work with students of all ages
  • Able to work full time - 08:45 - 15:30, Monday - Friday, term time only.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
