We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a specialist Secondary SEN School in Basingstoke.

The school supports secondary-aged students with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), global developmental delay, sensory processing differences, and associated social, emotional and communication needs.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support young people during an important stage of their education, helping them develop confidence, independence, communication skills, and preparation for adulthood. There are opportunities for increased responsibility, enhanced pay, and potential permanent employment following a successful placement.

Working alongside teachers and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will help students engage with learning, develop key life skills, and achieve their individual outcomes.

  • Support teachers in delivering engaging, inclusive, and differentiated lessons
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for students
  • Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual needs
  • Encourage independence, self-confidence, communication, and social development
  • Support emotional regulation, routines, and positive behaviour strategies
  • Help students work towards their EHCP outcomes and personal development goals
  • Build positive, professional, and trusting relationships with students
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, families, and other professionals
  • Support students in developing skills that prepare them for further education, employment, and independent living

You will not be expected to lead whole-class teaching, although experience delivering interventions or targeted learning activities would be advantageous.

We are looking for someone who is patient, adaptable, resilient, and passionate about supporting young people with additional needs.

Previous SEN experience is welcomed but not essential. We encourage applications from candidates with backgrounds in:

  • Education, schools, or childcare
  • Residential care or support work
  • Youth work, mentoring, or coaching
  • Healthcare and therapy support
  • Sports coaching
  • Community, customer-facing, or people-focused roles
  • A calm, patient, and positive approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to build rapport with teenagers and young adults
  • Resilience and confidence when supporting students with complex needs
  • A genuine commitment to inclusive education
  • A willingness to learn and develop within a specialist SEN setting
  • Competitive pay equivalent to £14.25 per hour
  • Full-time, term-time-only working pattern
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • A supportive and welcoming school community
  • Opportunities for increased responsibility and career progression
  • Potential for a permanent position
  • Valuable specialist SEN experience
  • The opportunity to make a lasting difference to the lives and futures of young people

The role is subject to an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS check and all relevant safeguarding and pre-employment checks. Applicants without a DBS registered on the Update Service will be required to obtain one before starting.
