Are you an enthusiastic and compassionate individual looking for a rewarding role supporting children with special educational needs?

A well-established school in Portsmouth is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join its supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about education and wants to make a positive difference to the learning, development and wellbeing of pupils.

You will work closely with class teachers and the school's SEN team to provide tailored support to pupils with a range of additional needs. Every day will be different, with the opportunity to help pupils overcome challenges, develop their confidence and become more independent learners.

Your duties will include:

  • Supporting pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis.

  • Helping children access the curriculum and participate fully in classroom activities.

  • Providing additional support with literacy, numeracy and other areas of learning.

  • Encouraging positive social and emotional development.

  • Supporting pupils with communication, concentration and engagement.

  • Helping to promote positive behaviour and maintain a calm learning environment.

  • Following individual support strategies and contributing to pupils' progress.

  • Working closely with teachers, SEN staff and other professionals.

  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils.

  • Promoting inclusion, independence and confidence throughout the school day.

We are looking for a reliable and caring individual who is genuinely committed to helping children succeed.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people.

  • An understanding of, or interest in, special educational needs.

  • A patient, nurturing and encouraging approach.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • The ability to remain calm and consistent when faced with challenging situations.

  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn.

  • The ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team.

  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.

Experience within an educational, childcare, care or youth setting would be advantageous, but relevant transferable experience will also be considered.

  • A supportive and welcoming school environment.

  • The opportunity to develop valuable experience within SEN education.

  • Support from experienced teachers and SEN professionals.

  • Ongoing opportunities for professional development.

  • A varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same.

  • The chance to make a genuine difference to children's lives.

If you are passionate about helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and would like to build your experience within a Portsmouth school, we would love to hear from you.
