Sometimes the teacher needs support.
Sometimes the class needs someone to step in and lead.

As an HLTA, you help both happen.

This role goes beyond general classroom support. You will assist teachers and also take responsibility for delivering lessons when required, ensuring continuity and consistency in learning.

Key responsibilities
Support whole-class learning alongside the teacher
Deliver planned lessons when required
Work with groups and individuals
Reinforce classroom routines and expectations
Support behaviour management
Assist with planning and preparation
Help maintain a structured classroom environment

Lessons continue smoothly when teachers are unavailable
Pupils receive consistent and structured support
Classroom routines remain strong
Learning is uninterrupted

Skills and experience
Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant
Confidence leading groups or whole classes
Strong communication skills
Organisation and reliability
Ability to follow lesson plans effectively

What success looks like
Pupils remain engaged during teacher absence
Lessons run effectively and on time
Behaviour remains consistent
Teachers feel supported
