We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Speech and Language Specialist to join our SEN school team in Cardiff, supporting learners with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).

In this role, you will play a key part in helping students develop their communication, interaction, and language skills, enabling them to access learning and express themselves with confidence. You will work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and other professionals to create a supportive, inclusive, and communication-friendly environment for all learners.

The ideal candidate will be proactive, adaptable, and passionate about supporting children with a wide range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), and Physical Disabilities (PD). A patient, calm, and nurturing approach is essential.

  • Assess, plan, and deliver individualised speech and language interventions
  • Support pupils aged 3-19 with varying communication needs
  • Work closely with teachers and multidisciplinary teams to embed communication strategies into daily learning
  • Implement and monitor personalised communication plans and targets
  • Support the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tools and systems
  • Provide both 1:1 and small group sessions tailored to pupils' needs
  • Contribute to creating structured, engaging, and inclusive learning environments
  • Offer guidance and training to staff to support communication development in the classroom

To be considered for this role, you should have:

 

  • Experience working with children or young people with ALN/SEN
  • Strong understanding of communication difficulties, including ASD and complex needs
  • A positive, proactive attitude and a passion for supporting young learners
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Child and Adult Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (we can assist with this)
  • Registration (or eligibility to register) with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) or relevant professional body
  • Professional references available upon request
  • A full UK driving licence and access to personal transport

 

Our SEN school is based across the Cardiff area and supports around 500 pupils aged 3-19, all with Additional Learning Needs.

The school is recognised for its innovative approach to SEN education, including the use of advanced technology and communication tools to enhance student participation and engagement.

In addition, the school is committed to supporting students beyond the classroom, regularly organising outdoor activities and enrichment opportunities to build confidence, independence, and life skills.
