Join Our Team as a SEN/SEMH Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) in Alternative Provision!

About Us: Our alternative provision program is committed to providing specialised support and education to students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. We offer a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed, tailored to their individual needs and circumstances.

Role Overview: Are you a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with a passion for supporting students with SEN and SEMH needs? Teaching Personnel are looking for a HLTA to join the team and support students within a specialist environment outside of mainstream education. 

In this role, you will work closely with small groups of students to provide personalised education and support to those who may be disengaged with traditional schooling and working to a lower academic level.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support in planning and delivering engaging lessons that are tailored to the individual needs and learning styles of students with SEN and SEMH needs, ensuring that lessons are accessible and relevant to their academic level and interests.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, providing encouragement, support, and guidance to help them overcome barriers to learning and re-engage with education.
  • Implement behavior management strategies and de-escalation techniques to maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment, while also addressing the underlying emotional and behavioral needs of students.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other educational professionals to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behavior support strategies that meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Provide regular feedback and assessment to students, identifying areas for growth and celebrating achievements, while also promoting a growth mindset and resilience in the face of challenges.
  • Support students in developing essential life skills and social-emotional competencies, helping them to build confidence, self-esteem, and resilience for future success.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) qualification or equivalent experience working in a similar role preferred.
  • Understanding of SEN and SEMH needs, with a commitment to creating a supportive and nurturing learning environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience in working with students who may have experienced trauma or adversity.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
