About the Role

We are looking to appoint a dedicated and experienced SENDCo to join our alternative provision in Northampton, working with students across Key Stages 3 and 4 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

You will play a central role in ensuring that all students with additional needs receive high-quality, personalised support that enables them to thrive both academically and emotionally.

Our alternative provision offers a supportive, structured, and nurturing environment for students who have struggled in mainstream education. We focus on:

  • Supporting successful transitions to further education, training, or reintegration

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage SEND provision across KS3-KS4
  • Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and statutory requirements
  • Oversee the identification, assessment, and review of students with SEND
  • Develop and implement effective SEN support plans and EHCP provision
  • Work closely with teaching staff to ensure high-quality adaptive teaching
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to staff on SEND and SEMH strategies
  • Liaise with external agencies, including educational psychologists, CAMHS, and local authorities
  • Engage and build strong relationships with parents and carers
  • Monitor progress and impact of interventions, ensuring positive outcomes for students

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (desirable but not essential depending on experience)
  • The National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCo) or willingness to achieve it
  • Proven experience working with students with SEMH and/or in alternative provision
  • Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice
  • Experience with EHCPs, reviews, and multi-agency working
  • A compassionate, patient, and resilient approach
