You might already work in SEND and be ready for a change.

You might be in mainstream education and wondering whether specialist provision would suit you.

Or you might have experience from care, coaching, youth work or mentoring and be looking at education for the first time.

Whatever your starting point, I'm currently recruiting for a range of SEND and SEMH opportunities across East Sussex, and I'd be interested in hearing from you.

I work with specialist schools across Hastings, Battle, Eastbourne, Hailsham, Seaford, Newhaven, Lewes and surrounding areas, covering both primary and secondary provision.

Opportunities regularly include:

  • SEND & SEMH Teachers
  • Teaching Assistants
  • Learning Support Assistants
  • Behaviour & Engagement Mentors
  • 1:1 Support
  • Pastoral & Intervention roles
  • Day-to-day work
  • Long-term and ongoing placements

There isn't one particular vacancy behind this advert. I'm looking to connect with good people and then work out which of my schools and opportunities actually make sense for them.

I spent several years working directly within SEND education before moving into recruitment, and one thing I learnt fairly quickly is that there isn't a single personality type that succeeds.

You don't have to be endlessly energetic or impossibly patient.

You do need to be consistent.

You need to understand that a difficult morning doesn't necessarily mean a difficult afternoon. You need to be able to maintain boundaries without turning every situation into a confrontation. And you need to be willing to get to know the individual pupil rather than expecting the same approach to work for everybody.

Previous SEND experience is useful, but it isn't required for every role.

Some schools are open to candidates with transferable experience from mainstream education, care, youth work, coaching, tutoring and mentoring.

This is important because SEND schools can be incredibly different.

I'll want to understand what you've done previously, where you're based, which age groups you enjoy and what sort of environment you're comfortable working in.

Then we can look at the opportunities that genuinely suit you.
