Pay Rate: £168.80 – £270.98 per day (dependent on experience)

Supply Desk is seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEND Teacher to join a specialist educational setting in the Portsmouth area. This rewarding opportunity involves supporting children and young people aged 2–19 years with hearing impairment, speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), helping them develop the confidence, independence and communication skills needed to thrive.

Working as part of a highly supportive multidisciplinary team, you will deliver engaging, personalised learning that enables every pupil to reach their full potential in a nurturing and inclusive environment.

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to individual communication needs.

  • Support pupils with Hearing Impairment (HI), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and social communication difficulties.

  • Promote communication, independence and emotional wellbeing through creative teaching approaches.

  • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, Speech and Language Therapists, Teachers of the Deaf, families and external professionals.

  • Create a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment where every child can succeed.

  • Monitor progress and adapt teaching strategies to meet individual learning goals.

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND.

  • A caring, patient and adaptable approach to teaching.

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Commitment to inclusive education and personalised learning.

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

Experience or knowledge of any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Makaton, British Sign Language (BSL), PECS or Signalong.

  • AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication).

  • Intensive Interaction or Attention Autism.

  • Total Communication approaches.

  • Visual communication and sensory communication strategies.

  • Supporting pupils with hearing aids or cochlear implants.

  • Working alongside Speech and Language Therapists (SaLT).

  • Competitive daily pay of £168.80–£270.98, depending on experience.
