Secondary SEND Outreach Tutor - Minehead

Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, compassionate and experienced Secondary SEND Outreach Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one educational support to a young person in Minehead.
The successful tutor will have strong experience supporting secondary-aged young people with SEND/SEMH needs, including those who may display challenging or unpredictable behaviour. You will need to be confident managing behavioural challenges, establishing clear boundaries and using positive behaviour strategies to help the young person feel safe, supported and able to engage with learning.
This role would suit an experienced teacher, tutor, teaching assistant, behaviour support professional or education specialist who is confident working independently and adapting their approach to the individual needs of the learner.
The young person may experience barriers to accessing traditional education, so the ability to build trust, remain calm and consistent, and provide flexible support will be essential.
This is an in-person role and is not online work.
The role may involve:
- Providing personalised one-to-one educational support to a secondary-aged young person with SEND/SEMH needs.
- Supporting a learner who may display challenging or unpredictable behaviour.
- Managing behavioural challenges calmly, consistently and appropriately.
- Establishing clear boundaries, routines and expectations.
- Using positive behaviour support strategies to encourage engagement.
- Recognising potential triggers and adapting support accordingly.
- Using appropriate de-escalation strategies when required.
- Building a positive, trusting relationship with the young person.
- Supporting secondary-level academic learning according to the learner's individual needs and your subject specialism.
- Adapting lessons, activities and resources to maintain engagement.
- Supporting a young person who may experience anxiety, school avoidance or disengagement.
- Creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.
- Supporting emotional regulation and positive engagement with education.
- Encouraging confidence, resilience and independence.
- Using the learner's interests and strengths to encourage participation.
- Helping the learner overcome barriers to accessing education.
- Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback.
- Working collaboratively with parents/carers, schools and other professionals.
- Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person.
Essential requirements:
- Experience working with secondary-aged children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
- Significant experience supporting young people who display challenging behaviour.
- Confidence managing challenging, distressed or unpredictable behaviour.
- Understanding of positive behaviour support and de-escalation strategies.
- Experience providing one-to-one educational or tutoring support.
- Experience working in a secondary school, Alternative Provision, EOTAS, tutoring, behaviour support or similar setting.
- Ability to adapt support to individual academic, emotional and behavioural needs.
- A calm, patient, consistent and empathetic approach.
- Ability to build trusting and respectful relationships with young people.
- Confidence working independently in home and community settings.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to maintain clear professional boundaries.
- Resilience and consistency when supporting young people with significant barriers to education.
- Reliable and flexible approach to work.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
