We're looking for dedicated tutors in the Thurrock area who are seeking more than just a timetable—they're looking to make a genuine impact.

The majority of our referrals are for secondary-aged pupils with SEMH and other complex needs. Many of these young people have found mainstream education challenging and require consistent, skilled, and patient support to help them re-engage with learning.

This is not a role where you simply deliver a worksheet and leave.

Instead, you'll be:

• Building strong, professional relationships
• Creating structured and safe learning environments
• Supporting both academic progress and emotional regulation
• Providing a consistent and reliable presence for each pupil

To be considered, you must be able to commit to:

• A minimum of 10–15 hours per week
• Core working hours typically between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm
• Availability from Monday to Friday

Consistency is essential for both our pupils and the wider professional team supporting them.

Our tutors do more than teach—they communicate effectively and professionally.

You will be responsible for:

• Accurately recording attendance
• Monitoring and documenting pupil progress
• Providing updates that can be shared with schools and other professionals
• Maintaining clear, accurate, and professional records

Your observations may directly contribute to EHCP reviews, school planning, and wider multi-agency decision-making, so strong attention to detail is essential.

We welcome tutors from a range of backgrounds, including:

• Private tuition
• Mainstream or specialist schools
• Alternative provision
• Youth work or pastoral roles

The qualities that matter most are:

• Strong behaviour management underpinned by empathy
• Experience supporting pupils with SEMH or other complex needs
• Professional written and verbal communication skills
• Reliability and resilience
• Confidence working independently

Success in this role isn't always measured by academic outcomes.

• A student remaining engaged throughout an entire session
• Completing work without escalation
• Beginning to trust a supportive adult again

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
