We are seeking dedicated and empathetic in-person tutors to work with both primary and secondary-aged pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN). A growing number of our referrals are for pupils who have been permanently excluded, and we are therefore looking for tutors who are confident supporting learners with complex needs and disrupted educational histories.

Tutors will deliver Maths and English and provide structured, supportive sessions tailored to each pupil. Many of our students have experienced significant gaps in learning and may present with low confidence or challenging behaviours. A calm, patient, and consistent approach is essential.

Location:
Tutoring will take place in person across Guilford.

Pay:

  • £25-£30 per hour, depending on experience and role requirements

Safeguarding Requirements:

  • An Enhanced DBS is required

  • Tutors must be registered on the DBS Update Service

  • If you do not currently hold an enhanced DBS or are not on the update service, you will be able to apply through us

The ideal tutor will:

  • Have experience supporting children or young people in an educational or related setting (e.g. tutoring, teaching, SEN support, teaching assistant, youth work)

  • Be confident delivering Maths and English at primary and/or secondary level

  • Have experience working with SEN pupils

  • Have experience or confidence working with pupils who have been permanently excluded (highly desirable)

  • Have relevant knowledge or experience working with Looked After Children (LAC) (highly desirable)

  • Be patient, resilient, and able to build positive relationships with pupils who may be disengaged from education

  • Be comfortable supporting pupils from a wide variety of social, emotional, and educational backgrounds

Hours & Commitment:

  • A minimum availability of 10 hours per week is required

  • Tutors seeking a fuller timetable would typically work with 2-3 pupils

  • Consistency, reliability, and professionalism are essential
