SEND Tutor - Taunton & Surrounding Areas

Location: Taunton and surrounding areas, Somerset

Quantum Scholars is looking for experienced and dedicated SEND Tutors to provide personalised one-to-one and small-group support to children and young people across Taunton and the surrounding areas of Somerset.

We work closely with local authorities to provide Alternative Provision and EOTAS support for young people who may be unable to access mainstream education. As a result, we are looking for tutors who have the experience, patience and understanding needed to support students with a range of SEND and/or SEMH needs.

This is an in-person role and is not online tutoring.

The successful tutor will be able to build positive and trusting relationships with students, adapt their approach to individual needs and provide engaging, accessible learning sessions that help young people develop their confidence, engagement and progress.

Experience working with students who have struggled within a traditional school environment, including those experiencing anxiety, school avoidance, behavioural challenges or difficulties engaging with education, would be particularly beneficial.

• Delivering one-to-one or small-group educational support
• Supporting students with their learning at an appropriate level for their age and ability
• Planning and delivering engaging, accessible and personalised sessions
• Adapting teaching and support approaches to meet individual learning needs
• Identifying and addressing gaps in knowledge and understanding
• Supporting students to develop confidence and a positive attitude towards learning
• Helping students develop independent learning and study skills
• Supporting young people to re-engage with education in a positive and meaningful way
• Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback
• Building consistent, positive and trusting relationships with students
• Working alongside parents, carers and other professionals where required
• Maintaining clear and professional communication
• Following safeguarding procedures at all times

• Experience teaching, tutoring or supporting children and young people
• Experience supporting students with SEND and/or SEMH needs
• Experience delivering personalised or one-to-one educational support
• The ability to provide engaging and accessible learning sessions
• A patient, calm, flexible and supportive approach
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• The ability to adapt your approach to different abilities, needs and levels of engagement
• A genuine commitment to helping young people reach their potential
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
• Willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS check, where required
• Satisfactory professional references
• Right to work in the UK

QTS/QTLS or relevant teaching qualifications are desirable, alongside experience working within SEND, Alternative Provision, EOTAS, PRU or similar settings.
