We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a specialist Primary SEN School in Basingstoke.

The school supports primary-aged pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), global developmental delay, sensory processing differences, and associated social, emotional and communication needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play an important role in a child's educational journey while developing your own skills and experience within specialist education. There are opportunities for increased responsibility, enhanced pay, and potential permanent employment following a successful placement.

Working alongside teachers and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will help pupils access learning, build confidence, develop independence, and achieve their individual goals.

  • Support teachers in delivering engaging, inclusive, and differentiated lessons
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils
  • Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual needs
  • Encourage communication, social interaction, confidence, and independence
  • Support emotional regulation, routines, and positive behaviour strategies
  • Help pupils work towards their individual learning targets and EHCP outcomes
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with children and families
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals

You will not be expected to lead whole-class teaching, although experience delivering interventions or targeted activities would be beneficial.

We are looking for someone who is patient, adaptable, resilient, and passionate about supporting children with additional needs.

Previous SEN experience is beneficial but not essential. We welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in:

  • Education, schools, or childcare
  • Residential care or support work
  • Youth work or mentoring
  • Healthcare and therapy support
  • Sports coaching
  • Community, customer-facing, or people-focused roles
  • A caring, nurturing, and patient approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to remain calm and positive in challenging situations
  • A genuine commitment to supporting inclusive education
  • A willingness to learn and develop within a specialist SEN setting
  • Competitive pay equivalent to £14.25 per hour
  • Full-time, term-time-only working pattern
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • A supportive and welcoming school community
  • Opportunities for increased responsibility and career progression
  • Potential for a permanent position
  • Valuable specialist SEN experience
  • The opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of young learners

The role is subject to an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS check and all relevant safeguarding and pre-employment checks. Applicants without a DBS registered on the Update Service will be required to obtain one before starting.

If you are passionate about helping young children overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today with your up-to-date CV and take the next step in your SEN career.
