Teaching Personnel is looking for a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a highly supportive Specialist Primary School in Bury this September.

This incredible setting supports pupils aged 3 to 11 years with a range of complex learning needs, including:

✅ Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
✅ Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
✅ Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you'll play a vital role in helping pupils access learning, develop life skills, and reach their individual goals.

Working alongside teachers, therapists, and specialist staff, you'll provide tailored support that makes a genuine difference to children's daily lives.

Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups

Assist with personalised learning programmes linked to EHCP targets

Adapt classroom activities to meet individual needs and learning styles

Use communication strategies such as:

  • PECS
  • Makaton
  • Visual Timetables
  • AAC Systems

Deliver sensory, play-based, and experiential learning opportunities

Encourage positive behaviour through patience, consistency, and relationship-building

Promote emotional wellbeing, independence, and confidence

Support personal care needs including:

  • Feeding
  • Toileting
  • Changing
  • Mobility assistance (where required)

Help create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment


✔ Experience supporting children or young people with SEN

✔ Understanding of ASD, SLD, PMLD, or complex learning needs

✔ A patient, caring, and resilient approach

✔ Excellent communication and teamwork skills

✔ Confidence supporting pupils with varying needs

✔ Ability to adapt and think creatively

✔ Commitment to a full-time, long-term role

✔ Comfortable supporting personal care when required

⭐ Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, AAC, or alternative communication methods

⭐ Teaching Assistant qualification or SEND-related training

⭐ Previous experience within a specialist or SEND setting
