Are you a compassionate, resilient, and dedicated individual looking to make a meaningful difference in children’s lives? We are currently recruiting for a full-time Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive special school in Newport this September.

Our specialist provision supports pupils with a range of additional learning needs (ALN), including social, emotional, and behavioural needs, autism spectrum conditions, and complex medical and learning difficulties.

Our school prides itself on creating a nurturing, inclusive environment where every learner is supported to reach their full potential. Staff work collaboratively to deliver tailored learning plans, focusing on both academic progress and personal development.

 

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping them to engage with learning and develop essential life skills.

You will work closely with teachers and other professionals to provide consistent, structured support that meets the individual needs of each pupil.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with a range of additional learning needs in and out of the classroom
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons
  • Provide 1:1 support for pupils with complex needs or behavioural challenges
  • Implement behaviour management strategies in a calm and consistent manner
  • Promote a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment
  • Support pupils with personal care if required
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
  • Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures at all times

 

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people (education, care, or similar background) or experience in adult care backgrounds (residential care, supported living etc).
  • A genuine passion for supporting individuals with additional learning needs
  • Strong behaviour management skills and emotional resilience
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A patient, proactive, and caring approach
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection
  • Willingness to apply for a DBS and registration with the EWC (we can help with both!)
