Learning Support Assistants - September 2026 Start

Location: Farnborough
Hours: Monday to Friday, term time only
Pay: £14.25 per hour

We are seeking to appoint Learning Support Assistants to join two specialist schools in Farnborough from September 2026. The schools support pupils with a range of additional needs, including Special Educational Needs (SEN)-such as autism and complex learning and communication needs-and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Both settings offer structured and supportive environments, where staff work collaboratively to promote pupils' academic, social and emotional development.

The Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils' learning and wellbeing on a day-to-day basis. This is a varied position that requires patience, adaptability and a proactive approach.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support in line with individual learning plans
  • Assisting teachers in the delivery and adaptation of lessons to meet diverse needs
  • Encouraging pupil engagement and supporting sustained focus
  • Promoting the development of communication, social and life skills
  • Supporting emotional regulation and implementing positive behaviour strategies
  • Assisting with de-escalation where required, in line with agreed approaches
  • Contributing to a safe, consistent and inclusive learning environment
  • Working closely with teaching staff, SENCOs and pastoral teams to ensure consistent support

Candidate Profile
We welcome applications from individuals with a broad range of relevant experience and transferable skills. This may include backgrounds in:

  • Education or tutoring
  • Care or support work
  • Youth work or community settings
  • Mental health or wellbeing roles
  • Customer-facing or people-focused positions
  • Coaching, sports or mentoring roles

We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Patience, resilience and a calm, consistent approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to build positive relationships with young people
  • A genuine interest in supporting pupils with additional needs
  • A willingness to learn and develop professionally
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team

Previous experience in SEN or SEMH is desirable but not essential. Comprehensive training, guidance and ongoing support will be provided.
