Teaching Assistant (SEN Support – Year 1) – September Start

A welcoming small village primary school in Horsham, rated Good by Ofsted, is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join the team from September.

This is a full-time, term-time only position, working within a Year 1 class to support children with behavioural needs. The role involves providing both 1:1 and small group support, helping pupils develop positive behaviours, engage with learning, and build confidence in a nurturing and structured environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support teaching and learning within a Year 1 classroom
  • Work closely with children with behavioural needs to promote positive engagement
  • Provide 1:1 and small group interventions
  • Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to implement behaviour strategies
  • Help create a calm, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with behavioural needs or SEN (desirable)
  • A calm, patient, and consistent approach to behaviour management
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A child-only enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to apply for one
