Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant - KS1-KS2

Location: Carshalton, London

 

We are currently recruiting for a leading SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school located in Carshalton, dedicated to providing a supportive and enriching learning environment for students facing SEMH challenges and/or exhibiting challenging behaviours. The School is committed to empowering students, helping them to overcome obstacles and reach their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally.

 

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with SEMH needs and/or challenging behaviours. Your primary responsibility will be to assist in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment where every student feels supported and valued.

 

This is a long-term role to start as soon as possible and will be with a view to going permanent. You will be working Monday to Friday and the hours will be from 8.30am-3.30pm. The daily rate of pay will be between £85-£100 depending on skills and experience.

 

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs, helping them to engage with learning activities and achieve their educational goals.
  • Assist in implementing individualised learning plans and behaviour management strategies tailored to each student's needs.
  • Support the class teacher in delivering lessons, ensuring that students are able to participate and make progress in their learning.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs and/or challenging behaviours is highly desirable.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, counselling, or a related field are advantageous.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience when working with students facing complex emotional and behavioural challenges.
