About the School: Teaching Personnel is currently seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant for a full-time position at an SEN school in Portsmouth. This school caters to 181 pupils aged 11-16 years with profound, severe, and complex learning difficulties. The curriculum is highly specialized and personalized to meet the needs of each student, many of whom have co-occurring conditions such as Autism Spectrum Condition, severe physical disabilities, and complex medical conditions.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, no weekends
  • Working Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm
  • Salary: Earn around £1500+ per month
  • Contract: Temporary to permanent contracts available

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the class teacher and support other Teaching Assistants throughout the school day.
  • Help students complete their work, participate in group activities, and provide alternative learning environments to promote progress.
  • Support teaching and learning across the school, working with struggling students or those facing challenges with the curriculum.
  • Conduct smaller booster groups and 1:1 sessions to help students reach their potential.
  • Provide support to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs.
  • Collaborate closely with the SENCO to monitor and advance developments in academic and social areas.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working with children with special educational needs is preferred.
  • Specializations in areas such as ASD, Speech and Language, SLD, or other Learning Disabilities are desirable.
  • Patience, compassion, and flexibility are essential qualities for this role.
  • Experience with profound and complex disabilities and/or autism is advantageous, but training will be provided for the right candidate.
  • This role could be suitable for individuals interested in pursuing a career in teaching or learning support.
