SEN Teaching Assistant - Enfield

This caring and committed school is recruiting for an experienced, resilient and personable SEN Teaching Assistant to join our special school in Enfield for students aged 3-11 years. This is a long-term position (part-time/15 hours).  This school creates a warm, positive and co-operative learning environment that supports the physical and emotional wellbeing of pupils with ASD. It strives to help students build relationships, develop independence, gain knowledge and skills, and achieve their full potential.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Implementing group and 1:1 interventions that supports the emotional, physical and behavioural needs of children with ASD.  
  • To develop a co-operative and harmonious relationship with parents, colleagues and students.
  • To liaise with relevant health and educational specialists to promote joint working initiatives to meet the diverse needs of children and their families.
  • Attending weekly reviews with SENCO to assess the student’s behavioural and academic progress.
  • To work collaboratively with parents to enable them to be equal partners in their child’s education through open dialogue, parent programmes, training and having shared aims for their children.
  • Orchestrate a variety of activities that serve to enhance social and co-operative skills of the pupil.
  • Create resources, organise and actively maintain the cleanliness and efficiency of the classroom.

Person specification:

  • Ideally at least 3 months experience with children or adults with special needs
  • We welcome applications from anyone who has a family member with special needs or completed voluntary work in the following areas: mental health, medical care, sports, psychology, play work.
  • Flexible to deliver support across primary and secondary classes on 1:1 and group basis
  • Knowledge of Makaton ideal.
  • A person who takes initiative, works well within a team as well as independently.  
  • Monday to Friday
