A supportive and well-established SEN school in Macclesfield is seeking a caring and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team after the May half-term, with the role initially running until Christmas and the potential for extension. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in a specialist setting, supporting pupils with a range of additional needs in a structured, nurturing environment.

The school caters for children and young people with a variety of special educational needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. You will work closely with teachers and specialist staff to provide tailored support that enables pupils to access learning, build confidence, and develop key life skills.


  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with a range of SEN needs
  • Assist in implementing personalised learning plans and interventions
  • Support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development
  • Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment
  • Use appropriate behaviour management strategies in line with school policies
  • Support communication and interaction using tools such as visual aids, PECS, or Makaton (where appropriate)
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff
  • Assist with personal care where required (training provided if needed)
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures and policies are followed at all times

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN (in school or similar settings)
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient attitude
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Understanding of SEN, particularly ASC, SEMH, or communication needs
  • Ability to remain calm and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
  • A genuine passion for supporting students with additional needs

  • Experience within an SEN or specialist school setting
  • Knowledge of behaviour management approaches (e.g., Team Teach)
  • Experience supporting non-verbal pupils or communication strategies
  • Relevant qualifications (Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, CACHE, or similar)
