SEN Teacher

A partner school in the Stockton-on-Tees area is seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Teacher to join their team after the Easter holidays. This role involves teaching a secondary class, delivering all subjects at Level 1/2, and supporting pupils with a range of complex needs.

You will be responsible for planning and delivering highly personalised learning experiences, working closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and families to ensure each pupil can reach their full potential.

• Plan, deliver, and assess engaging and differentiated lessons for pupils with PMLD, SLD, and complex autism
• Use sensory, play-based, and communication-focused approaches to promote engagement and independence
• Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and external professionals to deliver holistic support
• Create a nurturing classroom environment that supports emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and wellbeing
• Maintain accurate records, contribute to EHCP reviews, and set individual learning targets
• Use alternative communication methods such as Makaton, PECS, or other AAC systems
• Lead and support the wider class team, modelling best practice in SEND education

• Proven experience working with children with PMLD, SLD, and/or complex autism
• A strong understanding of SEND pedagogy, including personalised and sensory-based learning
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Creativity, patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting pupils with complex needs
• Emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations
• Strong organisational skills and confidence in leading a class team
• A clear understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
• Additional training in autism support, sensory approaches, communication systems, or behaviour support
• Experience using Makaton, PECS, or other AAC systems

All applicants must have the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Pay rates include 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This is a temporary position, with the potential for a permanent role for the right candidate.
