SEN Classroom Assistant

We are delighted to present you with an opportunity within our partnership secondary school as a SEN Classroom Assistantt. We are looking for an individual which has a passion for helping others, more specifically supporting children ages 11-16 with additional learning needs. Someone patient and understanding with a confident demeanour is the ideal candidate to succeed in this school. This is a full time position, on a 1 year contract starting 2nd September 2024.

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:20 - 15:10 (Term time only)

Pay: £83 - £95 a day (dependant on experience)

Contract: 1 year (Sept 2024 - August 2025)

What will I be doing?

As a Classroom Assistant, your role will include:

  • Providing dedicated classroom support to pupils aged between 11 and 16 years old.
  • Supporting and educating individual pupils with additional learning needs - particularly supporting pupils with Autism, Learning Difficulties and ADHD.
  • Supporting pupils in developing self-confidence and social interaction skills.
  • Encouraging pupils to take pride in their achievements.
  • Working closely as part of a team with other members of teaching staff across the school following school policies and ethos.

 

What experience do I need for this role?

The right person for this job will be calm, supportive, and nurturing, but with the ability to be firm but fair where needed. You will be someone that pupils can look to for support and advice, as well as someone that they look up to and respect.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting children or vulnerable individuals but this is not essential. If no previous classroom experience, you must be able to demonstrate transferable skills.

The successful applicant will need an enhanced DBS on the update service, EWC registration and be able to provide 2 references. Teaching Personnel will assist you with these during the on-boarding process.

 

Can you tell me more about the school?.

The successful applicant will be joining a popular and thriving Secondary school based in Newport.  The school has two large provisions for supporting children with additional learning needs, and you will be working within one of these provisions. 

You will have a very supportive team around you which have usually started from the beginning and worked their way up in the school. They will welcome you with open arms and provide you with the support required to feel confident in your approach and know the education plans for the young people so you can start to notice the progress over time.

There is on site parking and the school is easily accessible via Car from the M4.  The school has good public transport links from other areas of Newport.
