We are working with specialist schools in the Bury St Edmunds area, supporting pupils with a range of SEMH needs. These schools provide a structured, nurturing and supportive environment where students are encouraged to develop confidence, resilience, independence and positive relationships.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting students who may face challenges with their emotional wellbeing, behaviour, relationships and engagement with education.

You will work closely with pupils to help them overcome barriers to learning and develop the skills they need to succeed both in and outside of the classroom.

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to students with SEMH needs.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils and acting as a consistent source of support.
  • Supporting students with emotional regulation, confidence and resilience.
  • Helping pupils manage behaviours and develop positive coping strategies.
  • Encouraging engagement with learning and supporting students to overcome barriers to education.
  • Supporting the development of social, communication and independent living skills.
  • Using positive and consistent behaviour management strategies.
  • Helping create a calm, structured and safe learning environment.
  • Supporting pupils during challenging situations while maintaining a patient and compassionate approach.
  • Working closely with teachers and wider staff teams to provide consistent support.
  • Encouraging positive peer relationships and helping students develop their sense of belonging.

A full UK driving licence is essential for this position.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about supporting children and young people with SEMH needs.
  • Caring, patient and emotionally resilient.
  • Confident working with challenging or complex behaviours.
  • Able to build strong, positive relationships with young people.
  • Calm and consistent when dealing with difficult situations.
  • Flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of individual students.
  • Confident setting appropriate boundaries while maintaining a nurturing approach.
  • A strong communicator who can work effectively as part of a wider school team.
  • Willing to undertake relevant training and professional development.
  • A full UK driving licence holder.

Previous experience working in an SEMH school, PRU, alternative provision, residential setting, youth work, care or education environment would be highly beneficial.

  • Access to training and professional development through Teaching Personnel's CPD Academy.
  • Weekly pay based on your skills, experience and availability.
  • Easy-to-use online services for timesheets, communication and administration.
  • Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant.
  • The opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people.
  • The chance to develop valuable experience within specialist SEMH and alternative education settings.
