Are you dedicated to supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Looking for a rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference every day? Teaching Personnel is seeking a compassionate and proactive SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in Old Swan, Liverpool, from September 2026.

The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping pupils thrive both academically and emotionally. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing tailored 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs and associated learning barriers.
  • Delivering targeted interventions that promote emotional wellbeing, resilience, and positive behaviour.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, and pastoral teams to support individual learning and development plans.
  • Creating a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where pupils feel supported and valued.
  • Encouraging engagement, confidence, and independence both inside and outside the classroom.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for individuals who:

  • Have experience working with children or young people with SEMH, ASD, ADHD, or behavioural needs.
  • Demonstrate patience, empathy, and resilience when supporting pupils with complex needs.
  • Can build strong, trusting relationships that positively influence pupil outcomes.
  • Possess excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Are adaptable, proactive, and committed to making a positive impact.
  • Hold a relevant qualification or training in SEN, behaviour management, youth work, or a related field (desirable).
