SEMH Teaching Assistant - Flitwick

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will be a key source of support for pupils who require emotional guidance and behavioural consistency to succeed in school. Many of the children you'll work with may face challenges such as:

  • Emotional regulation and anxiety
  • Behavioural and attachment-related needs
  • Low confidence and self-belief
  • Difficulties with social interaction and communication
  • Trauma-informed needs
  • You'll support pupils both one-to-one and in small groups, helping them feel safe, understood, and ready to engage with learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils throughout the school day to access learning
  • Promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
  • Helping pupils develop coping strategies and resilience
  • Encouraging positive interactions with peers and staff
  • Working closely with teachers, SEN teams, and pastoral staff
  • Contributing to a calm, structured, and inclusive classroom environment

Who We're Looking For

  • A patient, empathetic, and dependable individual

  • Confident in building trusting relationships
  • Able to stay composed in challenging situations
  • A team player with good communication skills
  • Previous SEMH or SEND experience is helpful but not essential
  • A willingness to learn and develop within education and training
