About the Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who face challenges in school due to emotional or behavioural needs. Your role will be vital in helping them feel supported, understood, and ready to engage with learning.

You will be someone who can model positive behaviour, remain calm under pressure, and build strong, trusting relationships with young people.

Pupils you support may experience:

  • Anxiety or difficulty managing emotions
  • Behavioural challenges or attachment needs
  • Low confidence and self-esteem
  • Difficulty forming positive relationships
  • The impact of trauma or challenging life experiences

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils in lessons to help them access learning
  • Act as a positive role model, demonstrating calm and respectful behaviour
  • Help pupils develop emotional awareness and coping strategies
  • Encourage positive interactions with peers and staff
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support
  • Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and pastoral teams
  • Help maintain a structured, safe, and supportive classroom environment

About You

  • Calm, patient, and positive in your approach
  • Passionate about supporting young people's development
  • Able to build strong, trusting relationships
  • Resilient and composed in challenging situations
  • A strong team player with good communication skills

Previous experience with SEMH or SEND is beneficial but not essential. The school is keen to support individuals who are motivated to learn and grow within education.
