SEMH Pupil Inclusion Assistant - Secondary PRU | Oldham | Full-Time

Are you resilient, patient, and passionate about supporting young people who need it most? We are recruiting for a committed SEMH Pupil Inclusion Assistant to join a specialist secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in the Oldham area.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity to work with students who are unable to access mainstream education due to social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. The school provides a structured, nurturing environment where pupils are supported to re-engage with learning, develop emotional regulation, and build positive futures.

The PRU is well-resourced and designed to meet the needs of its learners, offering small class sizes, high staff-to-student ratios, and dedicated spaces for intervention, de-escalation, and pastoral support. You will be part of a strong, experienced team including teachers, behaviour mentors, pastoral staff, and senior leaders who prioritise both student progress and staff wellbeing.

The school is easily accessible across Oldham via public transport and also offers on-site parking.

The Role
As an SEMH Pupil Inclusion Assistant, you will work closely with students on a 1:1 and small group basis, supporting them to manage behaviour, engage in education, and develop key life skills. You will play a vital role in building trust, promoting positive behaviour, and creating a safe and consistent environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs
  • Support pupils displaying challenging behaviour using calm, consistent approaches
  • Assist in implementing behaviour plans and support strategies
  • Promote emotional regulation, resilience, and positive choices
  • Support learning within the classroom and during interventions
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students
  • Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and senior staff

Requirements:

  • Experience working with young people with SEMH or challenging behaviour (or strong transferable experience)
  • Calm, patient, and resilient personality
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • Ability to build positive and professional relationships
  • Proactive, flexible, and able to use initiative
  • Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners

What the School Offers:

  • Supportive and experienced leadership team
  • Small class sizes and high levels of support
  • Ongoing CPD, including behaviour and SEMH training
  • A collaborative and team-focused environment
  • Opportunity to gain valuable experience within a PRU setting
  • Clear pathways for progression within education
