I'm a Recruitment Consultant working directly with secondary schools across Brighton and the surrounding areas, and I need to strengthen the pool of educators I can confidently call when those schools need cover.

So I'm going to be quite transparent about what I'm recruiting for.

I need Supply Teachers and Cover Supervisors who want casual, flexible work and are comfortable with the reality that day-to-day supply isn't guaranteed.

There may be weeks where you're busy.

There may be quieter weeks.

Some bookings will be arranged days in advance. Others will come through first thing that morning.

If you're looking for guaranteed five-day-a-week income, this particular type of work probably isn't the best fit. I also recruit for longer-term secondary opportunities and would happily discuss those with you instead.

But if you want genuinely flexible work that you can fit around the rest of your life, this could work really well.

Schools don't wait until 9am to tell me somebody's off sick.

I can start receiving calls from schools from around 6:30am, and occasionally even earlier.

On those mornings, I'm then contacting the educators who've told me they're available that day.

You absolutely don't need to be free Monday to Friday. One or two reliable days each week can be incredibly useful.

What matters is that if you've told me you're available on Wednesday, that availability is genuine. If I'm calling at 6:30 or 6:45 with a booking, I need people who are likely to answer, respond quickly and be ready to get moving.

Depending on your experience, you'll be working at either Supply Teacher or Cover Supervisor level across secondary schools in and around Brighton.

Bookings can include:

  • Same-day emergency cover
  • Pre-booked daily supply
  • Planned staff absence
  • Cover Supervisor work
  • Subject-specific teaching
  • Several consecutive days at the same school
  • Longer placements where opportunities develop

Good day-to-day educators also tend to get requested again.

Once a school knows you, trusts you and knows that you can manage their classrooms, those relationships can quickly turn into more regular bookings.

For Supply Teacher work, you'll need QTS or an appropriate equivalent.

For Cover Supervisor work, QTS is not required. I'd be interested in experienced Cover Supervisors as well as people with strong transferable experience working with groups of young people, including graduates, coaches, tutors and youth workers.

Whichever level you'r
