Teaching Personnel is recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and specialist secondary SEN school in the Salford area, starting immediately.

This welcoming provision supports students aged 11-19 with a range of complex special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), severe and profound learning difficulties (SLD/PMLD), speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), sensory processing difficulties, physical disabilities, medical needs, and students who may display challenging behaviours linked to their additional needs. The school is committed to creating a nurturing, inclusive environment where every student can thrive socially, emotionally and academically.

The Role

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students both inside and outside the classroom. Working closely with teachers, therapists and support staff, you will help deliver tailored learning experiences and provide the individual support students need to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with complex SEN needs.
  • Assist in the implementation of personalised learning plans and EHCP targets.
  • Support students with communication, emotional regulation and social development.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs and learning styles.
  • Promote positive behaviour and engagement within the classroom.
  • Support students with personal care where required.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists and parents/carers.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and self-esteem in all learners.
  • Help create a safe, stimulating and inclusive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN, either in a school, care, youth work or support setting.
  • Understanding of additional needs such as Autism, learning difficulties, communication needs or physical disabilities.
  • A calm, patient and empathetic approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Relevant qualifications are desirable but not essential.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Right to work in the UK.
